Places to Visit Around Alanya
Alanya is much more than its beaches. The region has a long history and a beautiful landscape where the Taurus Mountains meet the Mediterranean – perfect for a day out during your holiday.
Alanya Castle
Rising on a rocky peninsula above the city, Alanya Castle dates largely from the Seljuk period of the 13th century. Its walls offer some of the best views of the coastline, especially in the late afternoon.
The Red Tower (Kızıl Kule)
Built in 1226 to protect the harbour, the octagonal Red Tower has become the symbol of Alanya. Nearby you can also see the historic Seljuk shipyard, carved into the rocks by the sea.
Damlataş Cave
Close to Cleopatra Beach, Damlataş Cave is famous for its stalactites and stalagmites and for its humid air, which stays at an almost constant temperature all year round.
Cleopatra Beach
Named after the legendary queen, this long sandy beach on the western side of the castle peninsula is one of the most famous beaches of the region.
Dim River
On hot summer days, the Dim River valley east of the city is a favourite escape, with restaurants set right above the cool, flowing water.
